Gilding Clare College Dining Hall

By Newmarket Decorators

Newmarket Decorators were proud to be commissioned to carry out specialist decorating and gilding works within the historic dining hall at Clare College, Cambridge.

The Decorating Works Carried Out At Clare College

As a Grade I listed building, the project required exceptional care, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of working within heritage environments. Our team completed extensive preparation and detailed finishing work, where we sprayed the breathable solvent based Zinsser Grade 1 which is specifically designed specifically for heritage buildings. This was all done in preparation before applying 24-carat gold leaf gilding, where we restored key decorative elements while respecting the character and history of the building.

The hall had not been redecorated for over 50 years, meaning the work required a meticulous approach to ensure the finish met the highest possible standards.

All works were carried out by our specialist finishing team, overseen by our dedicated contracts manager, ensuring the project ran smoothly from start to finish.

The project required full scaffolding and was completed in strict accordance with health and safety regulations, allowing our team to safely access and restore the intricate architectural features within the hall.
